The goal of this paper is to help managers design and conduct studies that will provide such information. Desirable study characteristics include multiple-visit surveys of all wetlands within a watershed to provide information on amphibian distribution, abundance, breeding, recruitment and seasonal variation in habitat use. By identifying the distribution of critical amphibian habitat and source populations, this approach should enable managers to target specific lakes for protection or restoration as fishless amphibian habitat without overly compromising wilderness fishing opportunities.

Assessing changes in amphibian population dynamics following experimental manipulations of introduced fish.
Sport-fish introductions are now recognized as an important cause of amphibian decline, but few researchers have quantified the demographic responses of amphibians to current options in fisheries management designed to minimize effects on sensitive amphibians. Demographic analyses with mark-recapture data allow researchers to assess the relative importance of survival, local recruitment, and mi...

Supportive breeding and stocking performed with non-native or domesticated fish to support sport fishery industry is a common practice throughout the world. Such practices are likely to modify the genetic integrity of natural populations depending on the extent of genetic differences between domesticated and wild fish and on the intensity of stocking. The purpose of this study is to assess the ...
متن کاملUse of Outlet Barriers to Prevent Fall Emigration of Brook Trout Stocked in Adirondack Lakes
—Outlet barriers in stocked lakes of the Adirondack Mountains were used to test the hypothesis that preventing fall emigration by adult brook trout Salvelinus fontinalis would increase trap-net and angling catch rates as well as the number of large trophy fish. Outlet barriers were maintained during the fall spawning season for 6 years on one lake and 10 years on another lake. We compared preba...
متن کاملConservation Genetics of Inland Lake Trout in the Upper Mississippi River Basin: Stocked or Native Ancestry?
—Although stocking for sport fishery enhancement has been practiced by resource managers for decades, the potential genetic effects of these stocking practices have remained largely unknown. We investigated the genetic contributions of stocking lake trout Salvelinus namaycush in two inland lakes in Wisconsin (Trout and Black Oak lakes in Vilas County), which represent the only known indigenous ...
متن کاملEffects of Stocking Adult Largemouth Bass to Enhance Fisheries Recovery in Pascagoula River Floodplain Lakes Impacted by Hurricane Katrina
Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, hypoxia-induced fish kills occurred throughout the Pascagoula River Basin in southeast Mississippi. We evaluated the effect of stocking adult Florida largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides floridanus; 200–356 mm total length) into Pascagoula River floodplain lakes to enhance fisheries recovery. We stocked 37 fish/ha into five randomly-chosen lakes in Decembe...
